The hardest area to work on was the running
gear and lower section of the locomotive. Not only was there years of dirt and grease and what not built up, but the
rods and various pipes were constantly in the way. Much of the piping was removed and cleaned up away from the locomotive.
The running gear was cleaned and painted as time and interest allowed. Once each section of the running gear was finished,
it became increasingly less acceptable to leave the rest undone. The area was the first to get a serious rehab and was
also the last area to be completed.
